1.5 KM BIRCOPUR IN THE NEW AUDI PRODUCTION FACILITY

BIRCO GmbH has been awarded the contract for drainage at the new AUDI AG production facility in Münchsmünster near Ingolstadt. A total of 1.5 km of the BIRCOpur channel system will be installed on the 42-hectare site. The Ingolstadt-based car manufacturer is thus relying on an innovative filtration solution for drainage. “Audi relies on future technologies – also in drainage. BIRCOpur is our answer to the new requirements for water filtration,” says Christian Merkel, Managing Director of BIRCO.

In addition to efficient drainage performance and a high load class, groundwater protection was a key factor when planning the drainage system. For this reason, close cooperation was maintained with the responsible water authority in Ingolstadt when selecting the appropriate drainage system. The decision was made in favor of BIRCOpur. Compactly installed in a linear drainage system, it combines filtration strength, efficiency and load-bearing capacity in one channel system. The channel body is based on the proven BIRCOsir channel system and is suitable up to the highest load class F 900. The BIRCOpur filtration solution based on this consists of interchangeable modules: a sedimentation box for coarse cleaning and a granulate filter pad. The latter cleans incoming water of organic and inorganic pollutants. Coarse cleaning prevents clogging of the filter pad, which therefore only needs to be replaced approximately every ten years.

The approximately 1500 meters of channel were installed strand by strand on the new plant site in Münchsmünster. At the beginning of 2013, Audi purchased a 42-hectare site here to create new production capacity.

Competence centers for the production of hot and cold-formed components, structural parts made of die-cast aluminum and chassis components were built on 31 hectares.
