CITY OF BOCHUM DECIDES ON PLANT WITH
IMPROVED CLEANING POWER
Due to new results from the Bochum traffic authority, 8,700 vehicles/day were measured and a system with improved cleaning power was decided on by the city of Bochum (cf. Bochum civil engineering office). This was followed by the conceptual solution to manufacture and install a substrate filter shaft in close cooperation with the company 3P Technik Filtersysteme GmbH. The cleaning power improves the water quality with regard to AFS, heavy metals and hydrocarbons.
The solution: The Hydrosystem 10.000 substrate filter system combines a hydrodynamic separator with a filter stage. As a treatment system for traffic areas, the substrate filter system removes pollutants such as heavy metals, mineral hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from rainwater and binds nutrients such as phosphates. The main areas of application are traffic areas such as parking lots, industrial areas and metal roofs. The area that can be treated depends on the degree of soiling and the cleaning objective. In the system, the rainwater is cleaned by sedimentation, adsorption, filtration and chemical precipitation. In the first step, the water passes through a sedimentation system in which solids are safely removed. The water then passes through a series of filter elements in an upflow process.
The filter elements clean the water and a large proportion of the pollutants are precipitated and absorbed.
The filters can be removed manually through maintenance openings; no crane vehicles or other logistical effort is required. The filters can also be easily backwashed from above in the event of an initial inspection after the work has been completed.
The clean water is located above the filter elements, passes through an oil separator and then flows to the drain.
